What to Know
After two games on the road, Towson is heading back home. They and the Northeastern Huskies will face off in a Coastal Athletic battle at 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday at TU Arena. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
On Saturday, Towson opened the new year with a less-than-successful 77-69 loss to Charleston. The Tigers haven’t had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team’s come up short the last two times they’ve met.
The loss doesn’t tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tyler Tejada, who scored 22 points. What’s more, he also racked up four threes, the most he’s had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Lowery, who went 5 for 6 en route to 10 points plus six rebounds.
Meanwhile, the point spread may have favored Northeastern on Saturday, but the final result did not. They received a tough blow as they fell 55-37 to Hofstra. The match marked the Huskies’ lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Even though they lost, Northeastern smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That’s a new trend for them: they were averaging 8.1 offensive rebounds per game earlier this season, but in their last five games they’ve averaged 15.6.
Towson’s defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Northeastern, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Towson has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 37 rebounds per game. However, it’s not like Northeastern struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging 36.5. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we’ll see if one team can grab an edge.
Towson was able to grind out a solid victory over Northeastern when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 83-76. Does Towson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northeastern turn the tables on them? We’ll have the answer soon enough.
